Festa Junina at GIS São Paulo celebrates the State of Rio Grande do Sul
This June, our school community came together to celebrate one of Brazil’s most cherished cultural traditions: the Festa Junina. The event was the joyful culmination of weeks of meaningful inquiry across grade levels. Students explored regional identities through a rich variety of lenses — including traditional games, dances, music, poetry, cuisine, and fauna. Inspired by the guiding theme “Rio Grande do Sul – Estado de Muitas Nações”, students deepened their connection to Brazilian culture and reflected on the cultural diversity that shapes our national identity.
Beyond the festivities, the event also highlighted our commitment to action and community engagement. As part of our learning, students and families participated in a school-wide campaign in partnership with TETO, a non-profit organization that works to combat poverty through the construction of emergency housing. This collective effort was a meaningful reminder that cultural celebrations can also be powerful opportunities for solidarity, empathy, and change. We are grateful to all who contributed to this memorable experience.
